Rechle Bridge in Lenora
A unique covered all-wooden beam footbridge over the Teplá Vltava River from 1870.
The Rechle in Lenora is a unique covered all-wooden beam bridge built over the Teplá Vltava River in 1870. It was used to hold back floating timber. Originally, the Rechle served to direct, retain, release, and most importantly, count the timber being floated down the Vltava River to paper mills in Větřní and Loučovice.
The term “rechle” comes from the German word der Rechen, meaning “rake.” Why “rake”? Inside the bridge were stored wooden poles used to release accumulated logs. These poles were inserted into openings in the floor beams.
Today, the bridge is a protected cultural monument in the village of Lenora.
