Sudslavice Linden Tree

Sudslavice Linden Tree

Meet the South Bohemian giant. The Sudslavice linden tree is also often called Hus's Linden, as legend says Master Jan Hus once preached beneath it. However, with an estimated age of 600 years, it is more likely that Jan Hus could have only planted it. Today, the tree stands 30 meters tall, with a trunk circumference nearing 12 meters. Along with the Chlístov linden, it is one of the largest in South Bohemia.

Additional information

The last maintenance of the tree was done in 2011. Thick branches in the crown are supported with cables, and a small roof covers the hole left by a broken limb. Accordion players regularly gather beneath the tree. Mr. Vanický, the owner of the nearby mill, gladly shows visitors the old milling equipment.

The Sudslavice linden also marks the starting point of a nature trail, opened as early as 1977. The trail winds above the Volyňka valley near the village of Sudslavice, 5 km south of Čkyně, within the Opolenec Nature Reserve. Educational panels are installed along the route.
