Folk Baroque by Jakub Bursa
Follow the footsteps of Jakub Bursa.
A very distinctive style of buildings known as folk baroque, made famous especially by inscriptions on the facades, can be found in the Prachatice region of the Šumava tourist area. Most of them were built by Jakub Bursa – the only confirmed folk architecture mason master.
His buildings are highly characteristic, using traditional decorative elements combined with bold pillars and half-columns to divide gables, stylized spruce motifs, and various inscriptions.
A hallmark of Jakub Bursa’s work is the “Eye of God,” typically framed by a triangle or semicircle.
