Church of St. James the Greater in Prachatice
See Prachatice from above.
This late Gothic church is one of the most significant and oldest landmarks in Prachatice. It is located on Church Square, between the Great Square and the Lower Gate, also known as the Písek Gate. The church is closely tied to spiritual cosmic space and is believed to possess above-average energy. Its current appearance dates to the 19th century, when the tower was rebuilt in the shape of a minaret after a fire in 1832.
The church is dedicated to St. James the Greater, the patron saint of merchants, traders, pilgrims, porters, and orphans. The construction of the Church of St. James the Greater was made possible by the founding of a new trade route along the famous Golden Path, which passed through Prachatice.
