Hillfort Věnec near Lčovice
Walk the Celtic trail.
The Věnec hillfort, with its massive stone ramparts, may have served as a princely power center during the late Hallstatt period. It likely administered the entire Volyňka valley and protected the trade route from Austria’s Salzkammergut. This role is supported by the discovery of an imported ornate bronze belt – a piece that could hardly have belonged to a local nobleman, but rather to a prince, ruler of a much larger territory.
The Hallstatt-period hillfort of Věnec is located on the southwestern peak of the Pržmo massif, a prominent feature of the landscape above the Volyňka valley. The name “Věnec” refers only to the hillfort area itself and was likely given due to the massive stone walls encircling the summit.
