Rosenberg House – Blata Museum

Rosenberg House – Blata Museum

Nature of the Tábor Region and Rosenberg History in Soběslav.

These are the two most beautiful houses in Soběslav. Zuzana Vojířová – the favorite of the last Rosenberg, Petr Vok – once lived in the Rosenberg House. The Smrček House on the town square is a notable Renaissance landmark. What they share is their role as home to the Blata Museum.

The history of the Rosenberg House dates back to the second half of the 15th century. The house known as Špulířovský was purchased in the 16th century by Petr Vok of Rosenberg, who also acquired two adjacent houses, combining them into a single architectural unit – a comfortable palace for his frequent visits to Soběslav. Since 1904, when the town acquired the house for the city museum, this fascinating building near the main square has served museum purposes.

Today it hosts two permanent exhibitions: Nature of the Tábor Region and Soběslav – Town of the Five-Petaled Rose, which guides visitors through the Rosenberg history of the town. A highlight among the exhibits is a unique Gothic chest (the city treasury) brought down from the tower of St. Peter and Paul Church in 2013 and restored with original decorative elements from the museum’s collection. Children can enjoy a worksheet and a wooden puzzle.
