Bechyně Tourism Museum
At the first tourism museum in the Czech Republic, you’ll learn everything about its history.
Do you love hiking but the weather isn’t ideal, or do you want to enjoy tourism in a different way? Or perhaps you’re not a hiker but still curious about new things? Then head to Bechyně, where the Tourism Museum offers nearly everything you could want to know about the world of hiking and travel.
Learn how tourism developed in the Czech Republic and across Europe, how the Czech Tourist Club was formed and evolved, how Časopis turistů (Tourist Magazine) has been published since 1889, and explore the lives of important figures in Czech tourism.
The museum features historical maps and gear, a large collection of tourist badges, and old trail signs from the turn of the 19th to 20th century. An interactive digital map presents over 200 Czech lookout towers.
Though the museum only opened in 2006, it’s the first of its kind in the country. It’s housed in the former Jewish synagogue near T. G. Masaryk Square, offering not only the spirit of exploration but also a glimpse into the history of Bechyně’s Jewish community.
