Jistebnice
A small town in the heart of the South Bohemian countryside where the famous Jistebnice hymn book was discovered.
Jistebnice is an ancient and picturesque town nestled in rolling hills and peaceful nature. The Church of St. Michael the Archangel dominates the town. It was in the local parish house that the famous Jistebnice Hymn Book was found, containing the Hussite hymn Ye Who Are Warriors of God. Despite bearing the Rožmberk rose in its coat of arms, Jistebnice shares much with the Hussite movement – the town’s bellringer, Petr Hromádka, is believed to have been the true founder of the town of Tábor.
The town features an educational trail called "Jistebnice Orchards" winding around local ponds. You can borrow a key at the municipal office to visit the small chateau – also known as the Vlašský House – which includes a memorial room for native painter Richard Lauda. Follow the red trail to the Chapel of St. Mary Magdalene for a stunning view over South Bohemia.
