Fortification Area Slavonice

Fortification Area Slavonice

This area is an example of the defensive fortification line of the Czechoslovak Republic, built between 1935 and 1938.

It showcases a section of the defense line made up of observation and firing corridors, anti-infantry and anti-tank obstacles nearly 200 meters long, and 11 reconstructed bunkers of model 37 (called “řopíky”), restored to the state of the 1938 mobilization period and to the state of socialist reactivation during the Cold War years 1949–1989. Two fully equipped and armed bunkers are open to visitors, each representing a different era (1938 and 1963). You can see original machine guns, rifles, pistols, submachine guns, a functioning hand ventilator, observation periscopes, crew gear, and other equipment. Guided tours of the bunkers are provided by experts. A new educational trail runs through the entire area, featuring 13 stops that offer key information about the construction of fortifications in Czechoslovakia between 1935 and 1938, including details specific to the Slavonice region.
