New Town Hall in Prachatice
Read the history of the town through the sgraffito on the New Town Hall in Prachatice.
The Neo-Renaissance-style New Town Hall of Prachatice dates back to 1903 and was built on the original site of the old Meerwld House on the Great Square.
A closer look reveals depictions of human activities and professions under the main cornice. These activities and professions reflect the themes of science, crafts, clergy, justice, the military, agriculture, and the arts. In the decorative gable of the building, there is a statue of the patron saint of Prachatice. Below the clock on the tower, an important scene is depicted showing the handing over of privileges to the town by the messengers of King Wenceslas IV in 1382.
