Drslavice Fortress
The fortress undoubtedly ranks among the most remarkable examples of lower noble residence architecture.
Drslavice Fortress is a Gothic-Renaissance building located in the village of Drslavice, in the Prachatice district.
It was likely founded in the 14th century. However, the village of Drslavice is first mentioned in writing only at the end of the 14th century – much later than its Czech servant-type name would suggest, indicating its origin during internal colonization at least two centuries earlier.
The first known owners were the lesser noblemen of Drslavice. It later came into the possession of the Eggenbergs, then the Rožmberks, and finally the Schwarzenbergs.
Gradually, the fortress lost its residential function and was repurposed for agricultural use.
Its decline began after 1619, when it was destroyed by fire. The farmstead was rebuilt, but the fortress itself was not.
In 1778, it was converted into a granary and served in that role until 1803, when it was sold off in parts to local peasants.
In 1931, the fortress was purchased by the Švejda couple. Their descendant, Zdeněk Švejda, a former fighter pilot, is currently restoring the building.
There are currently no fixed visiting hours.
