Way of the Cross and Chapel of the Holy Spirit,Vlachovo Břez
The Way of the Cross is protected as an immovable Cultural Monument of the Czech Republic.
On the northwestern edge of the town of Vlachovo Březí, you ascend along the Way of the Cross to the Chapel of the Holy Spirit on the Pentecostal Hill. At the very top of the path stands the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, behind which are located the three Calvary crosses and the Holy Sepulchre.
This local Way of the Cross consists of fourteen traditional masonry niche chapels, each housing a painting of the Passion scenes by artist Jindřich Boška. The path was built in 1853 at the initiative of Mayor Jan Tischler and Dean P. E. Achwitz, with the consent of the then Prince Franz Josef Dietrichstein. The original Passion paintings from the 19th century were painted by František Mikule from Jinín near Strakonice. After many years, the paintings were restored by local artists František Matoušek and brothers Jindřich and Jan Boška.
