Rechle in Lenora
The Rechle in the village of Lenora is a unique covered wooden beam footbridge over the Teplá Vltava River, built in 1870. It was originally used to retain floating timber.
The Rechle served to direct, retain, release, and most importantly, count the timber floating down the Vltava River to the paper mills in Větřní and Loučovice.
The term “rechle” originates from the German word der Rechen, which translates to "rake" in Czech. Why "rake"? Inside the Rechle, wooden poles were stored and used to loosen accumulated wood. These poles were inserted into openings in the floor beams.
Today, the bridge is a protected cultural monument in the municipality of Lenora.
