Husinec Reservoir
The Husinec water reservoir is located near the town of the same name in the Prachatice District.
The primary purpose of the dam was to protect Husinec and surrounding villages from flooding. The lake formed behind the dam captures spring thaw waters and continues to do so today. The dam was completed in 1939, and over time it gained additional functions. The reservoir supplies drinking water to the town of Prachatice. Between 1950 and 1954, a small hydroelectric power plant was built below the dam, equipped with a Kaplan turbine and an installed capacity of 0.5 MW. The stone dam is 34 meters high and 196.5 meters long at the crown. A 5-meter-wide road runs across the top, 25 meters above the lake surface.
The lake behind the dam covers 68 hectares and holds 6.53 million cubic meters of water. The dam is built from stone quarried at the large Kobylí Hora quarry near Prachatice. The stone was transported via cableway across the valley. A road from Prachatice to Husinec crosses the dam. The red hiking trail leads from Prachatice (about 5 km) to Husinec (about 3 km). The yellow trail follows the reservoir and continues through the Blanice River valley to Křišťanovice Pond near the ruins of Hus Castle.
