Castle Safari in Strakonice

The Castle Safari is home to several animal species.

A visit to Strakonice Castle or just a walk in its surroundings can be pleasantly enriched by a stop at the Castle Safari, especially for families with children. Our goal is to create optimal conditions and an environment similar to natural habitats for the animals housed here. The Castle Safari is home to several animal species, most of which have already given birth to offspring.

The small herd of goats and sheep in the Strakonice Castle Safari comes partly from private breeder Petr Ředina and partly from the Ohrada Zoo in Hluboká nad Vltavou. The goat was one of the first animals domesticated by humans, possibly as early as 8800 BCE. Domesticated animals first spread in areas such as Palestine, Persia, Mesopotamia, and Egypt, and later reached Europe. The oldest goat remains in Europe from the Neolithic period have been found near Stuttgart and several sites in Switzerland.

In many countries, the goat is an important farm animal. Worldwide, hundreds of millions of goats are raised, divided into around 500 different breeds. These breeds vary in size, color, and purpose. A large portion consists of hardy, low-yield breeds suitable for grazing in tough conditions, requiring minimal shelter, being cold-resistant, and able to graze on otherwise unusable land. In the Czech Republic, however, we mostly see highly productive breeds, which are classified as dairy, meat, or fiber goats depending on their production focus.

There is a feed dispenser located directly at the safari, so you can safely feed the animals.
