Blanský les Protected Landscape Area
The Blanský les PLA is located in the foothills of the Šumava mountains and is an ideal destination for a peaceful family holiday far from the hustle and bustle.
What makes Blanský les so unique? It’s mainly the well-preserved fauna and flora, complemented by numerous historical landmarks and examples of folk architecture. The area contains vast tracts of natural forest communities, but the flora and vegetation of the limestone meadow islands are also notable. About 900 species of vascular plants have been recorded here, and there are 15 nature reserves.
In addition to natural beauty, Blanský les also offers significant historical monuments. These include the Celtic oppidum near Třísov, Zlatá Koruna Monastery, the ruins of the Gothic castle Dívčí Kámen, and the village heritage zone of Holašovice. The lowest point is 420 m (Vltava canyon) and the highest is 1084 m (summit of Mount Kleť).
The Blanský les area is perfect for a tranquil family getaway. There are 7 educational trails leading through the most beautiful spots – from stunning views at the Granátník lookout tower and the oldest lookout tower in Bohemia on top of Mount Kleť, to the baroque-style park around Červený Dvůr chateau. All of this in a peaceful countryside of forests, groves, picturesque South Bohemian villages, and remote homesteads – far from the rush of daily life.
