Svět Pond

Svět Pond

A popular destination for recreation and water sports, also ideal for hiking and cycling.

Covering 200 hectares, Svět Pond is among the ten largest ponds in South Bohemia and is fed by the Golden Canal. It was built in the 1570s by Jakub Krčín of Jelčany and was originally named "Nevděk" (Ingratitude). To create the pond, the suburb of Svinenské in Třeboň was demolished. Originally larger, it was divided after a flood in the early 17th century into today's Svět and Opatovický ponds. A statue of Krčín on the dam commemorates the founder.

How to get there

The pond is easily accessible on foot or by bike from the town center. If you’re driving, you can park at the P8 parking lot below the dam.
