Old Town Hall Tower in Třeboň

Old Town Hall Tower in Třeboň

The Old Town Hall Tower offers unique views of the historic city center and the surrounding landscape.

The Old Town Hall is one of the most significant buildings on Třeboň's square. It was established in 1562 by rebuilding two neighboring houses that had burned down, carried out by Vlach Jakub Cornbell. With the support of Emperor Ferdinand III, a massive, four-sided, 31-meter-high tower with a gallery, clock, and onion-shaped roof with a lantern was added to the town hall in 1638. Since then, the tower has become the city's second dominant feature. In 1742, the building's facade was decorated with frescoes featuring the coats of arms of the Rosenbergs, Schwarzenbergs, and the city. During a reconstruction in 1819, the town hall building was raised by a second floor. The tower itself was historically used to announce fires and other dangers, but today it offers unique views of the historic city center and the surrounding landscape.
