Monument to Ema Destinnová
A granite monument near the village of Stříbřec commemorating the famous Czech opera singer – Ema Destinnová
In memory of Ema Destinnová (1878–1930), who lived for several years at the castle in Stráž nad Nežárkou, a granite monument was erected near the village of Stříbřec. The stone memorial stands by the bank of the Nová Řeka (New River), at a spot where this great Czech singer used to indulge her passion for fishing. The site is easily accessible on foot or by bike from the Stříbřec bridge. The monument was commissioned after her death by her friend, landowner Vladimír Hofbauer from Stříbřec. The epitaph engraved on the stone was written by Destinnová herself.
Nearby stands a memorial tree – a summer oak almost 360 years old. Pictures of the famous singer are embedded in its bark.
