Tábor Medieval Underground

Tábor Medieval Underground

Twisting passageways beneath the old town of Tábor.

Have you ever wandered through an underground labyrinth? No? In this Tábor maze, you won’t get lost! You’ll light your path with lanterns and even get a look at the Old Town Hall.

You’ll encounter a pantry, a prison for gossiping women, a fire escape shelter, a tavern, and even a miner digging out another section of the tunnel. If you’re in the mood for some mystery, you can join a local Costumed Tour. And before you descend into the depths of Tábor’s underground, you can also visit the Hussite Museum or the Gothic Hall—all within the same building.

The cellars under Tábor’s Old Town are reportedly up to 14 km long and span several levels. As you walk through them, you’ll learn how deep beneath Žižka Square you are, when this Tábor curiosity was built, how such corridors (called "lochy") were excavated, and what their purposes were.
