Route description

Starting at the Jakub Krčín monument at the Svět dam, follow cycle route CT122 north to Břilice, then continue on CT1034 to the village of Přeseka. Proceed on CT1034, then along CT1035 through an oak-lined dike of the Rožmberk Pond into Stará Hlína. Carefully cross the main road and continue along CT1035, following the educational trail “Around Třeboň” over the Starý Vdovec and Nový Vdovec dikes to a crossroads at the Ema Destinnová memorial, where you can choose one of two options:

  • More advanced cyclists can continue on CT1035 to the village of Stříbřec, follow the educational trail to Lutová, turn onto CT1011 and ride to Chlum u Třeboně (opportunity to swim in Hejtman Pond) – then return via CT122 through Hamr and follow the “Around Třeboň” trail back to Třeboň. (approx. 41 km)
  • For families with children, we recommend turning right to follow a paved cycle route along the Novořecká dike, passing century-old oak trees and Novořecká Bašta, reaching the main road and continuing through the Soví Forest, connecting to CT122 and back to Třeboň via the “Around Třeboň” trail. (approx. 30 km)

Interesting places on the route

  • Rožmberk Pond – The largest pond in the Czech Republic, built between 1584–1590 by Jakub Krčín of Jelčany and Sedlčany. It covers 489 ha, has a 2,430 m dam that is up to 10 m high, 55 m wide at the base and 11 m wide at the crown. In the 2002 floods, it held back water from an area of 2,300 ha. In 2004, fishermen erected a monument near the safety spillway, showing past flood levels.
  • Svět Pond – Originally called “Nevděk”, this pond was constructed in 1561–1573 by the same Jakub Krčín. Today it is used for both fishing and recreation. A scenic boat cruise is available.
  • Stříbřec – One of the village’s oldest buildings is a former fortress, later a farmhouse of the Hofbauer family, frequently visited by Ema Destinnová. The village features the Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk (1860) and a bust of writer Ivan Olbracht, who hid here during WWII. Nearby on the Nová řeka is a granite memorial for Ema Destinnová with her own epitaph, and next to it, a commemorative oak tree named in her honor.
  • Lutová – A preserved, heritage-protected South Bohemian village dominated by a 14th-century Gothic church surrounded by centuries-old linden trees.
  • Chlum u Třeboně – A favorite destination for campers. The dominant sight is the Baroque pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, adorned with stone statues and a Way of the Cross. Nearby stands a Baroque chateau, surrounded by a scenic park with exotic trees, bushes, and interesting sculptures.
