To Borotín Castle with K. H. Mácha

Into the hills to the oldest church in the Tábor region with a view, and to a romantic ruin once visited by poet Mácha – even for goat cheese.

A trip through the romantic landscape of the Jistebnice Highlands. You’ll climb to Kostelec, where the oldest church in the Tábor region shines white and offers views all the way to Tábor. Across Bukovec Hill, you’ll continue along a forest path to the hamlet of Pikov under the shadowy Dehetník Hill. From there, you’ll walk to the charming village of Borotín, where you can refresh yourself at the restaurant Na rynku or buy fresh cheese from a goat farm. Nearby is the legendary castle ruin, dramatically perched above a pond – like something from a fairytale. There you'll find a statue of the White Lady and a memorial plaque to the most famous Czech “tourist,” the poet Karel Hynek Mácha. Next door is the Baroque manor Borotín, where you can rest. The return route leads you through a picturesque stream valley either to Chotoviny or to Nasavrky. From both places, a train returns to Tábor.
