To the Land of Views – The Střezimíř Scenic Trail

Would you like to go on a walking trip and enjoy far-reaching views? Then head to Střezimíř!

The picturesque village of Střezimíř, located in the Toulava tourist area on the southernmost tip of Central Bohemia, got its name from its founder, Střezimír. The name also hints at the reason it was founded – "to guard peace." And the founder chose a truly fitting spot. From the hill where the chapel of St. Adalbert stands, magnificent views open in all directions, especially southward. That’s why Střezimíř was ideal for guarding the old provinces. From here, watchmen used fire signals. And that’s not all – you’ll also visit a special farm where Przewalski’s horses are raised.

How to Wander

  • Start your journey at the train station in Střezimíř. Regular trains run here from Tábor.
  • You won’t get lost – the entire trail is well marked with a blue envelope symbol, guiding you through all 7 scenic viewpoints.

What to See and Experience

From the Lipka viewpoint, you can see across historic Tábor all the way to the Austrian border. You’ll spot Kleť, the Písek Hills, the Bohemian Forest, and if you're lucky, even the Alps behind its ridges. From the gazebo, you’ll see across the entire Sedlec Basin to the Brdy Mountains. And with a pair of binoculars, you can step into history. Discover the mythical Blaník, the castles of Šelmberk, Borotín, Choustník, and Vysoký Chlumec. You’ll also overlook the Rosenberg lands of Třeboňsko and the town of Prčice nestled in the Český Merán Valley, where the famous noble family has its roots.

Throughout the entire hike, you'll encounter small sacred monuments – from the largest, the chapel of St. Adalbert in Střezimíř, through niche chapels to stone and cast-iron crosses. In Dolní Dobřejov, you’ll be able to see Przewalski’s horses – bred here by the Prague Zoo before being released into the wilds of Mongolia – and near the Lipka viewpoint, try to find a hidden geocache.
