EuroVelo 7 – The Vltava Cycling Route

Since ancient times, the Vltava River has been a sacred and mystical river for our ancestors – a vital and navigable artery, a source of information and inspiration. It was a rare diadem gifted by nature, and it has remained so even after its valley was adorned by human hands with a series of water bodies.

Dear cycling friends,

You are now browsing the cycling atlas on the website www.jiznicechy.cz, which aims to guide you through the South Bohemian section of the Vltava Cycling Route and share some insights about it. This atlas serves as a tool for those who believe us when we say that a vacation spent cycling from Kvilda in the Šumava mountains to the border of the South Bohemian Region is not only possible, but beautiful – and might even provide more memorable experiences than a stay at the seaside. And as for your body – well, there's no debate.

The Vltava Cycling Route stretches an impressive 450 km, with the South Bohemian section measuring 270 km. It is marked on the map with a bold orange line and a blue logo. Other cycle routes are marked in purple. In addition to information on tourist attractions along the way, you’ll also find elevation profiles and a list of contacts for tourist information centres.

The route runs through charming landscapes of mostly gently undulating terrain. The surface is quite variable – mainly asphalt, but there’s also some gravel and occasionally just a worn footpath. Nevertheless, with a little attention, the entire route is safe and comfortably passable on a trekking bike.

We wish you many happy kilometres and wonderful experiences. And one small request: many of the most beautiful sections run along purpose-built roads used by landowners such as LČR, Povodí Vltavy, and agricultural enterprises. Please respect that you are using routes they maintain, with their permission – so behave as you would when visiting someone's home.
