A Journey with a Child’s Soul in the Borovany Region

Discover the beauty of the Borovany region from the saddle of an electric bike. No hill is an obstacle — it’s up to you how long your route will be, or whether you’ll follow one of the recommended trails around Borovany.

This moderately demanding route includes stops at the Dvorec Zoo, Bušek’s Hammer Mill, and the Jan Žižka Memorial in Trocnov. Close to the memorial, you can visit the Hussite Museum and a nature trail with information panels about Jan Žižka. Bušek’s Hammer Mill features a permanent exhibit on ironworking. The whole route winds through the picturesque South Bohemian countryside.

Interesting places on the route

ZOO DVOREC – currently home to over 300 animals in approximately 120 species. Reptile lovers can enjoy a newly opened terrarium with the largest collection of cobras in the EU.

BUŠEK’S HAMMER MILL – a functional technical monument. The entire system is powered by three water wheels that drive a hammer, grinder, and forge bellows. A man-made channel with an overflow cascade directs water to the wheels. Under favorable water conditions in the Klenský stream, the machinery can be seen in operation.

OSTROLOVSKÝ ÚJEZD – a Renaissance fortress with a granary.

JAN ŽIŽKA MEMORIAL IN TROCNOV – birthplace of the Hussite military commander. A tour of the Trocnov site takes about 2–3 hours; it is recommended to start at the museum with its new exhibition dedicated to Jan Žižka. The museum is located in the original manor house of the Borovany monastery.
