OCC – Stage 1: From Modrava to Horažďovice

The Otava Cycling Route is a long-distance trail that starts just outside the South Bohemian Region, in the Pilsen Region. In fact, it begins even earlier than the Otava River itself, which is formed slightly further north by the confluence of the Vydra and Křemelná Rivers. After winding through the forests of Šumava (Bohemian Forest), you reach the picturesque Šumava foothills. Except for a few segments in the Šumava mountains, the route is not very hilly. The trail surface varies but is overall very well passable. Along the way, you’ll discover many historical monuments, and at the end, you’re rewarded with the imposing Zvíkov Castle at the confluence of the Otava and Vltava rivers. The total length is about 137 km; the trail is moderately difficult at the start, then becomes easy, and is suitable for trekking bikes.
