Ruins of Louzek Castle
Louzek Castle, located about 4 km south of Kaplice, was once situated near the historic trade route from Bohemia to Upper Austria.
The ruins of Louzek Castle stand in a forest on a rocky promontory above the confluence of the Zdíkovský Stream and the Malše River. This guard castle, built near the trade route from Upper Austria to Bohemia, appeared on the rocky outcrop above the Malše around 1300.
The castle entered written history only in 1421, when it was mentioned in a letter from Oldřich of Rosenberg. However, by 1541, it was already recorded as abandoned.
The core of the castle consisted of a tower, residential buildings, and other structures around a small courtyard. The northwest approach to the castle was protected by fortifications. From the defensive system, a rampart and a moat are still visible today. Remnants of the tower, the palace, and part of the fortifications have also been preserved.
