Terčino (also Tereziino) Valley

Terčino (also Tereziino) Valley

Terčino (also Tereziino) Valley, a natural landscape park covering an area of 138.3 ha (originally only 68.8 ha), is located in the valley of the Stropnice stream, about 1 km from Nové Hrady. In 1949 it was declared a national natural monument. The park, including its buildings and landscape features, is also protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

The site where the park now lies originally served as a pheasant court for the nobility. In the mid‑18th century, at the request of Countess Terezia Buquoyová, the pheasant court was transformed into an extensive natural park with a variety of ornamental trees and shrubs. At the time of its founding, it was called Valloncherie.

If you visit Terčino Valley, you will find well‑maintained paths with white‑painted wooden bridges and benches, and several romantic structures. You can admire the entrance gate, the Empire‑style spa house “Václavovy lázně” (the so‑called “láznicky”), the ruins of the so‑called Blue House, the Swiss House, the hammer mill (now a guesthouse), a 500‑year‑old oak, and above all an artificial waterfall fed by a canal from the Stropnice stream. All this is connected by a 5‑km long circular educational trail, which introduces you to the nature and history of Terčino Valley through modern information panels.
