Kleť Lookout Tower
This 18-meter-high stone tower stands on the summit of Kleť mountain. Built in 1825 in the Neo-Gothic style and adorned with battlements, it offers views of the České Budějovice and Třeboň basins, the Novohradské Mountains, and parts of the Šumava between Český Krumlov and Prachatice.
How to get there
You can reach Kleť via the chairlift from Krasetín, or by several marked hiking trails. One option is to follow the green trail (about 5 km) from Holubov train stop. Another is to take the yellow trail from the Plešovice train stop.
Additional information
Between 1824 and 1825, the tower served as a trigonometric point for cartographic purposes and was frequently visited by mapmakers. In 1925, a mountain lodge was built nearby, under the patronage of Princess Therese of Schwarzenberg. Close to the lodge is the highest-located sundial in Bohemia. Inside the lodge is an exhibition on the nature of the Blanský Forest. You can stay overnight or just rest after a hike. Another highlight is the visit to the highest observatory in the Czech Republic, located nearby.
