Handbike – The Best Routes for You
We have selected a few routes and locations so that you don’t have to search, you can park easily and start right away. Plus, we have chosen flat routes rather than hilly ones, so you can enjoy your handbike ride to the fullest.
Hluboká nad Vltavou
Park at the Sports and Relaxation Complex, located right by the cycle path, and set off. In Hluboká, you have two options:
- Hluboká – České Budějovice
- Perfect surface, completely flat
- In the season, plenty of refreshment stations
- You can easily reach the main square in České Budějovice
- A relaxed ride or a great tempo training session
- Hluboká – Purkarec
- Beautiful route with a very good surface
- Runs alongside the river, through forests, and past the Schwarzenberg Old Game Reserve
- Includes some ascents and descents, making it perfect for experienced bikers

The Sports and Relaxation Complex in Hluboká nad Vltavou has barrier-free facilities and offers various sports activities.
Lipno
Drive to Lipno nad Vltavou, park at the central car park below the cable car, and head towards the water. When you reach the cycle path, turn right. The route along the lake is completely flat, allowing you to cover a great distance.
A great highlight is the Frymburk ferry, which runs hourly in the season, taking you across to the other side of the lake, where you can explore the hills, pastures, and forests.
Our Tip:
The Lipno Ski Resort offers handbike rentals. The number of bikes is limited, so we recommend booking in advance.
Třeboň
The Třeboň region is a cyclist’s paradise, and thanks to the flat landscape, it’s also perfect for handbikers. You’ll find many beautiful trails here.
You may occasionally need to ride on the road, so don’t forget your safety flag.
A great starting point is the parking lot below the Svět pond dam, or even better, at the City Beach Complex by the Svět pond.
Šumava (Bohemian Forest)
The Bohemian Forest offers numerous cycling opportunities, and selecting just one route is tough!
We recommend the route:
➡️ Borová Lada – Knížecí pláně – Žďárecké jezírko
- Park in Borová Lada and follow the signposts to Knížecí pláně and Žďárecké jezírko
- Only a short stretch runs along a road with traffic, and beyond the village, only authorized vehicles are allowed, making for a calm and safe ride
- The surface is mostly very smooth, with a gentle elevation profile
Experience Tip:
While in Borová Lada, consider driving to Chalupská Peat Bog for an extra nature experience. More details later!
