Radíč Castle
Radíč Castle contains remnants of the original Gothic fortress within its structure.
During the early Baroque period, the entire southern wing was decorated with ceiling paintings featuring mythological and Old Testament themes based on Renaissance models. At the same time, to the east of the castle, the so-called Einsiedeln Marian Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary was built. Its complete restoration, carried out with great respect for the original historical elements, was completed in 2011.
In front of the chapel stand two sandstone statues of saints—St. Vitus and St. John of Nepomuk—created by the famous Baroque workshop of Jan Brokoff. These are among the most important sculptural monuments in the Sedlčany region. In the late Baroque period, the eastern wing of the castle was rebuilt, and the entire first floor became a grand ceremonial hall. The architecture of this wing is attributed to the renowned architect Antonio Porta. Adjoining the castle is a Baroque-era manor yard, whose most notable structure is a two-story granary with a central passage and flanked by pairs of barns.
Among the castle’s prominent historical residents was Bernard Bolzano, a priest, philosopher, and renowned mathematician.
