Zoological Gardens Hluboka nad Vltavou was first opened to the public on May 1, 1939. Originally created as part of the museum in the neighboring hunting Ohrada decision of the former owner of the manor Hluboká Dr. Adolf Schwarzenberg.
Since then, the zoo went through periods of development and stagnation at the end of the 60s of the 20th century even considered on its abolition. Zoo but was saved and since 1972 is being developed as an independent.

Zoo situated near the town of Hluboka nad Vltavou, next to the hunting castle Ohrada. It is located in an environment typical for South Bohemia - on the bank of the pond in flat terrain with alleys of old oaks. Currently there are about 4.5 ha of land have found their home and space to live about 300 species in nearly 3,000 copies. The zoo is in keeping with the tradition continues primarily devoted to breeding animals originating from Europe and from Asia temperate climate and especially species living in the wild Czech Republic.
