Dobrš
Dobrš is an ancient village located in the northwestern part of the South Bohemian Region, in the Strakonice district.
Dobrš is a picturesque historic village nestled in the beautiful South Bohemian countryside.
The Dobrš settlement likely originated in the early Middle Ages. The strategic location of the village and both churches suggests the possible existence of a fortress. The first written record of Dobrš dates back to 1352. Another comes from 1377, when Přibík of Dobrš, called Kocík, appointed a parish priest to the local church. Přibík is also the earliest known member of the Koc family of Dobrš, who lived there until 1607.
Among the best-known and most interesting landmarks is the Dobrš fortress – a Gothic structure later rebuilt – and the originally Romanesque Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary from the 13th century. After damage in 1420, it was rebuilt in the Early Gothic style.
The Chapel of Saints John and Paul, situated on a hill above Dobrš, is originally a Romanesque church built around 1230, located at the site of a presumed pagan shrine. It is characterized by a single-nave layout with a separated tower, an apse, and especially a pseudo-Gothic upper floor.
