Žižka’s Skalka in Prachatice
View Prachatice as the famous commanders once did.
The prominent rock formation known as Skalka is located in the suburban area of Prachatice, about 150 m from the city’s fortification system. This steep, heavily fractured quartz ridge is part of a massive quartz vein.
Skalka is the highest point of the historical city core and was once used for military purposes. Notably, in November 1420, Jan Žižka of Trocnov commanded his troops from Skalka during the siege of the town. Later, in September 1620, at the beginning of the Thirty Years’ War, Imperial General Count Buquoy directed the siege from this very spot.
