Memorial of Ema Destinnová

Memorial of Ema Destinnová

A granite memorial near the village of Stříbřec, built in honor of the famous Czech opera singer Ema Destinnová.

In memory of Ema Destinnová (1878–1930), who spent several years living in the chateau in Stráž nad Nežárkou, a granite memorial was erected near the village of Stříbřec. The stone monument stands on the bank of the Nová River, at a spot where this great Czech soprano often enjoyed fishing. The location is easily accessible on foot or by bicycle from the Stříbřec Bridge. The memorial was built after her death by her friend, the farmer Vladimír Hofbauer of Stříbřec. On the monument, you can read the epitaph that Destinnová wrote for herself.
