Discover Czech Canada from Above

Explore the beauty of Czech Canada from a bird’s-eye view.

An excellent way to explore the Czech Canada landscape is to observe it from above. One option is a hike to the lookout tower on Rýdův Hill near the village of Děbolín, about 5 kilometers from Jindřichův Hradec towards Prague. The tower, with a total height of 33 meters, stands at an elevation of 551.5 meters above sea level and is a landmark of the surrounding area. The observation deck is positioned 24 meters high, and visitors can climb it via either a spiral steel staircase with 102 steps or a wooden staircase with 128 steps. The architectural and structural design of the tower is based on the concept of an equilateral triangle (trigon), which forms its floor plan.

A beautiful view of a large part of Czech Canada can be enjoyed from the U Jakuba lookout tower on Havlova Hora near the village of Valtínov. At an elevation of 680 meters, there is a wooden mast made from laminated profiles, whose unique shape—resembling a pencil with a hexagonal prism topped by a hexagonal pyramid—makes it architecturally exceptional. With a height of 40.7 meters, the tower is the tallest wooden viewing structure made from laminated profiles and the second tallest wooden building of its kind in the Czech Republic. The area around the lookout tower features cascades of ponds, retention reservoirs, striking solitary stones, and a forest park for children. Among the most famous features is the “Devil’s Butt” near Terezín.

Landštejn Castle, built in the early 13th century, is one of the best-preserved stone castle ruins in Bohemia. With its two towers connected by a palace, it represents a unique structure of its kind in the region and is one of the most important Romanesque monuments in Central Europe. The upper part of the taller tower serves as an observation point, offering a beautiful view of the deep forests of Czech Canada.
