Ruins of the Royal Castle Velešín
Velešín Castle is located on the shore of the Římov Reservoir and is open to visitors.
Velešín Castle is one of the oldest feudal residences in South Bohemia. It was built at the end of the first third of the 13th century as a royal castle to strengthen the Přemyslid dynasty's power and protect their interests in the region.
The castle was granted by King Přemysl Otakar II. to Čéč of Budějice, then owned by the Lords of Michalovice, and later by the Rosenbergs. In 1487, during the reign of Vok II of Rosenberg, the castle was abandoned.
Today, the castle ruins are managed by the Hrady na Malši association and form an integral part of their "Zemská cesta" project. One of the most significant achievements of the association was the construction of a wooden bridge over the castle moat, making the ruins more accessible to visitors.
