South Bohemia, with its rich nature, historical landmarks, and a wide range of activities, is perfect for a vacation in a campervan or motorhome. Modern campsites with excellent facilities, plenty of swimming spots, and countless attractions for kids and adults alike make it an ideal destination. For five days, actor Lukáš Langmajer explored South Bohemia with a big group of friends and kids. So, where did we take them, and where do we recommend you go too?
Hooray, we're going on a trip!
We’re starting in the Česká Kanada region, home to the largest hornbeam maze in Central Europe—Obludiště. Next, head to Zoo Na Hrádečku in Horní Pěna, a charming family-friendly zoo. And if you’re still in the mood for more wandering, visit the corn maze at Léto v kukuřici or the whimsical Fantazia Roseč.
Lukáš spent his first night at Penzion Veverčí Dvůr, but if you’d prefer to head straight to a campsite, check out Chaty Zvůle.
From the Chaty Zvůle campsite, set off to Lesopark U Jakuba with its scenic lookout tower. The park offers plenty of activities and refreshments, making it a great family-friendly stop.
From there, it’s a short trip to the curious rock formation known as Devil’s Backside (Ďáblova prdel). Located near the settlement of U Panského lesa, within the triangle formed by the villages of Terezín, Nový Svět, and Valtínov, the name will make perfect sense once you see it in person!
To wrap up the day, head to Český Rudolec, where you can explore the chateau and enjoy a visit to the local brewery. Back at the campsite, you’ll find plenty of sports activities and a diverse gastro offering to round off your adventure.
From Česká Kanada, you’ll head to Třeboňsko, where there are several campsites. We accommodated Lukáš at Camp Paris. On the way, make sure to stop in Třeboň, known for its beautiful square, chateau, Schwarzenberg Tomb, and excellent gastronomy. If the weather is good for swimming, don’t miss the Malá Tušť Sandpit.
What would a trip to Třeboňsko be without paddling down the Lužnice River? The ideal route for you is Suchdol nad Lužnicí to Majdalena, a 12 km stretch that takes about 3-4 hours to complete. This section runs through a nature reserve, offering beautiful meanders to enjoy. You can rent boats, for instance, at the Vodácká základna (Canoe Base), and a shuttle service from Majdalena will take you back to your starting point.
Around the Svět (world), lake trip
If you’ve brought your bikes, you can’t miss the Around the World (Svět lake) Tour in the Vitorazsko region. The settlements here bear the names of world capitals, and unlike their real counterparts, they’re only a few kilometers apart. Who else can say they visited Venice, Paris, London, and Bosnia all in one day?
If you’re drawn to something different, set off on a journey through abandoned villages. One such village is Krabonoš, where only the ruins of a rectory and a church remain.
