APATYKA Café Nové Hrady

APATYKA Café Nové Hrady

A visit to Apatyka is a treat for all the senses

The tradition of pharmacy in Nové Hrady dates back to the mid-17th century. At that time, Franz Leopold Buquoy established a so-called court pharmacy in part of the Residence on the town square. It was richly equipped not only with medicinal materials, but also with technical equipment and containers. Later, it was moved to the monastery and run by the Servite order. In 1775, a new pharmacy was established in a house on the square and operated until the end of World War II. In the 1960s, it was closed, and its inventory stored at the castle. In 1998, it was decided to place the baroque pharmacy in a renovated building near the square, in the alley leading to the church. The collection includes over 100 wooden pharmacy jars.

The pharmacy was briefly reopened by artist Vladislava Jirásková, who created an inspiring space with a stylish alchemical apothecary for making perfumes, soaps, oils, and elixirs.

Afterwards, the pharmacy was closed for almost two years.

Since the summer of 2019, the site has served as the baroque-style Apatyka Café, where you can enjoy excellent Colombian coffee from a small farm, refreshing ice cream, sundaes, tasty (even gluten-free) desserts, or purchase gifts for loved ones, Moravian and Georgian wines, and various regional products.

The café includes a children's corner and an outdoor playground with seating and a sunny terrace.

The café is wheelchair accessible. Dogs are welcome. Photography is encouraged!
